Steps
- In a large bowl, crack four room temperature eggs.
- Add 3/4 cup of whole milk, 2 tbsp of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon of vanilla to the eggs.
- Add a pinch of salt to the mixture.
- Whisk the ingredients together until you have a silky custard.
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (if baking in batches).
- Place 1-2 tablespoons of butter into a hot pan over medium heat.
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture for about 5 seconds per side for a more custardy French toast.
- Carefully place the dipped bread slices into the hot pan.
- Cook the French toast for about 2 minutes per side, or until golden brown. If your stove is very hot, you can use a mixture of vegetable oil and butter to prevent burning.
- Once cooked on one side, transfer the French toast onto a baking sheet lined with a wire rack (if cooking in batches).
- Continue adding more butter as needed to cook the remaining slices until all the French toast is done.
- Garnish with maple syrup, fresh berries, or whipped cream and serve.
