- 6 cans (implied) Black beans
- 1 medium (finely chopped) Onion
- 2 cloves (minced) Garlic
- As needed for flavor/texture Roasted red peppers
- 1 large Egg
- To taste Chili powder

Steps
- Partially mash the black beans to achieve a burger-like consistency.
- Add finely chopped onion, minced garlic, and roasted red peppers to the mashed beans.
- Stir in an egg to help bind the mixture together.
- Season the bean cakes with chili powder, cumin, hot sauce, and salt.
- Mix in bread crumbs (or crushed crackers/tortilla chips) until a binder is formed. Save some for coating the outside of the patties if desired.
- Form the mixture into six hearty black bean cakes.
- Heat a cast iron skillet over medium heat and cook the burgers, browning them on each side.
- Transfer the pan to an oven and finish cooking until heated through.
