Million Dollar Baked Ziti

Ingredients

  • ziti pasta
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • pasta sauce (marinara or spaghetti sauce)
  • ricotta cheese
  • sour cream
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
  • garlic-infused extra virgin olive oil
  • minced garlic
  • 1 heaping tablespoon Better Than Bouillon
  • kosher salt
  • black pepper
  • cooking spray
  • fresh basil

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Boil pasta water seasoned with salt and Better Than Bouillon. Cook ziti until al dente. Reserve pasta water, drain, and shock with cold water.
  3. Brown 1 lb ground beef in garlic-infused olive oil over medium-high heat. Add minced garlic.
  4. Add pasta sauce to beef. Season with salt and black pepper. Simmer on low.
  5. Grate 1/2 cup Parmesan and 2 cups mozzarella cheese.
  6. In a large bowl, fold cooked pasta with ricotta cheese and sour cream.
  7. Spray casserole dish with cooking spray.
  8. Add a thin layer of meat sauce to the bottom of the dish.
  9. Layer pasta-ricotta mixture, then cheese (ricotta/sour cream blend), then meat sauce. Repeat layers.
  10. Top with mozzarella and Parmesan. Add reserved pasta water to sauce if needed.
  11. Cover with foil and bake at 375°F for about 20 minutes.
  12. Remove foil and bake uncovered another 10-15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  13. Garnish with fresh basil and serve.
