Steps
- Rinse the short ribs under cold water to remove any bone fragments, then pat them dry with paper towels and set aside.
- In a blender, combine half of the Korean pear (or red apple), half of an onion, and half of a kiwi. Blend until completely smooth; add about 1/4 cup of water if necessary for blending.
- Transfer the blended mixture to a large mixing bowl. Add soy sauce, sugar, mirin, corn syrup or honey, sesame oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, chopped green onions, and water.
- Give the marinade a good mix until all ingredients are combined.
- In a large container, layer two to three strips of ribs on the bottom, then pour over some of the marinade. Repeat this process with the remaining marinade and ribs.
- Close the lid and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Heat a large cold pan over medium-high heat. Place the marinated short ribs into the pan and pour over about 1/4 cup of the reserved marinade.
- Cook the ribs for approximately 6 to 7 minutes, flipping frequently, until they achieve beautiful char all around.
- While the ribs are cooking, lightly coat a separate large pan with oil. Add sliced onions and cook them over low heat until they reach your desired doneness.
- Once cooked, slice the short ribs into pieces.
- Place the cooked ribs on top of the sautéed onions, garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
