Jalapeno Pepper Shrimp (Camarones con Jalapeños)

  • 2 lb large shrimp
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 tsp lemon pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 jalapenos
  • oil
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • Maggi or soy sauce
  • chili flakes

Steps

  1. Clean, devein, rinse, and pat shrimp dry.
  2. Season shrimp with garlic salt, lemon pepper, paprika, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Toss to coat.
  3. Add cornstarch and flour; toss until each shrimp is fully coated.
  4. Mince 2 garlic cloves, chop onion into large chunks, and slice jalapenos into rounds.
  5. Heat enough oil to cover half the shrimp in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry shrimp in batches about 1 minute per side until crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  6. Remove most oil and burned bits from pan. Reduce to medium, add butter. Sauté onion and jalapenos for about 2 minutes.
  7. Add Maggi or soy sauce, salt, black pepper, and chili flakes. Add minced garlic and cook 1 minute.
  8. Return crispy shrimp to pan and toss until coated. Serve immediately.
