Korean Ground Beef and Rice

  • Ground beef
  • White Jasmine rice (cooked according to package instructions)
  • Ginger
  • Garlic
  • Brown sugar
  • Sesame oil
  • Hot pepper flakes
  • Soy sauce
  • Toasted sesame oil (for garnish)
  • Scallions

Steps

  1. Cook white Jasmine rice according to package instructions.
  2. Heat a pan over high heat and add light olive oil, avocado oil, or vegetable oil.
  3. Add the ground beef to the hot pan. Break it up as much as possible with a wooden spoon while cooking.
  4. While the beef cooks, mix together the sauce ingredients: soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, brown sugar, and hot pepper flakes.
  5. Continue cooking the beef until it is crispy and almost starts to crackle and pop (this may take about ten minutes).
  6. Discard some of the fat from the pan if desired.
  7. Add the prepared sauce to the cooked ground beef in the pan. Let it simmer for a couple of minutes.
  8. Serve the Korean Ground Beef over the jasmine rice, topping with scallions and toasted sesame seeds.
